Review by hotel critic
During our recent adventure in Portmagee, we stayed at the Moorings Hotel & Seafood Restaurant, which offered an inviting atmosphere that was hard to resist. Nestled within the scenic beauty of the Skellig Ring, this quaint establishment is a gem for travelers seeking both comfort and local flavor. The complimentary breakfast was particularly delightful, with an emphasis on fresh, locally caught seafood—my lemon sole was simply to die for! While the room we initially checked into was charming, we faced some challenges with the mattress, which could use an update. The genuinely friendly staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort—after mentioning the issue at dinner, the manager promptly offered us alternatives, demonstrating their commitment to guest satisfaction. The ambience of the Bridge Bar, with its cozy fireplace, was perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring, and the live music added a vibrant touch. Despite the minor hiccups, I wholeheartedly recommend the Moorings for its exceptional location and warm hospitality. With stunning views and a wealth of nearby attractions—like the Skelligs Chocolate Factory and the picturesque cliffs—the hotel serves as an excellent base for adventurers like myself. The charm of Portmagee, combined with the rich history of the area, ensures that there's so much to discover, making this a trip worth taking, regardless of a few bumps along the way.
